SPN Nurse Safety Spotlight Award

SPN is launching a new award this quarter! The Nurse Safety Spotlight Award (powered by Baxter) looks to showcase pediatric nurses that demonstrate commitment to pediatric patient safety through professional activities, and/or interactions with patients and their families within their organization. Read more about the award criteria, questions, and prizes below. This award will be offered on a quarterly basis: the deadline for submissions this quarter is December 3, 2024.

• Must be an SPN Member
• Practicing nurse (not retired)
• Bedside/Clinical nurses
• Self-Nominations will be accepted
• No corrective actions for past year

Award Application Questions

1. Please provide a statement (500-1000 words) describing activities that the candidate has undertaken that show their dedication to patient safety. Try to address all applicable patient safety domains (listed below).

• Leadership
• Mentoring
• Training
• Innovation

Patient Safety Domain Definitions

• Leadership - Recent or current activities that show the applicant’s leadership in implementing bedside patient safety practices.
• Mentoring – Recent or current activities that demonstrate the applicant advancing patient safety through mentorship. Examples could be participation in a preceptorship, mentoring program, etc. where the applicant passed on patient safety knowledge to mentees.
• Training – Recent or current activities that demonstrate the applicant implementing patient safety practices through training other nurses.
• Innovation – Recent or current activities that demonstrate the applicant advancing, implementing, or creating innovative approaches to patient safety.  

2. List out all activities that the candidate has led/participated in to improve patient safety knowledge and/or practice within their facility/community.

3. List any recognitions that the candidate has received for these activities.

Prizes

Recipients of the award will receive a $100 gift card to SPN to use towards an online product: recognition on all of our social media channels and within the SPN Member Digest, and bragging rights with their colleagues.
